Yesterday was my last day in Maui, and I spent a good part of the morning exploring the Waihee Ridge Trail. Fortunately the trailhead was already partly up the mountainside (about 1100 ft.), so the climb to 2200 ft., while somewhat strenuous, was do-able. This was truly my time to spend in awe of God’s creation. I really find that I’m more of a mountain person than a beach person. So glad that the islands have both!!
This part of the island is a rainforest ecosystem, and I had a blessing of light rain as I ascended into the low clouds over the West Maui Mountains. Just a couple of pictures to give you an idea of what I was seeing from up in the clouds. One of the pictures is overlooking Kahului, the city I flew into.
In a sense, I feel as if I’m already on retreat…the sisters I stayed with tell me that three days is not nearly enough time to spend on Maui, but I feel quite content to have spent my time the way I did. Better to slowly savor my experiences than to try to rush to see and do everything that it is possible to see and do.
There are so many thoughts I have and want to share with you. I’ll try to space things out a bit so that you have some new content to read while I’m on retreat.
