The week has been a little disorienting, but I do want to share a brief reflection on this first day of Lent.
Remember thou art dust and to dust thou shalt return.
These words, often spoken as ashes are received, do serve me as a reminder of what this season is all about. Probably not so much literally, as imagining my corpse decomposing after my death doesn’t really provide much of a spiritual uplift… Today, I’ve been reflecting on “who I am” and “whose I am.”
I believe these days of Lent carry an invitation to really remember who I am as God’s beloved, and to live my life in this conscious awareness. I also want to remember that despite many other claims on me, I really only belong to God.
Have a blessed Lenten season, and please feel free to share your own reflections anytime.
